The Karnataka government has thrown its weight behind Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after the state's governor approved his prosecution in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar made the announcement on Saturday, stating that they are preparing to challenge the case legally.
Joined by Home Minister G Parameshwara and senior Minister Krishna Byregowda, Shivakumar addressed reporters at an urgent press conference. 'On August 1, we demanded the Governor withdraw the decision during a cabinet meeting,' Shivakumar said. 'We believe the complaint has no merit and that democracy must be defended by dismissing it.'
Karnataka's government plans to contest the governor's decision in the High Court. The Deputy CM accused the governor's office of being used to destabilize Siddaramaiah's administration, describing the move as unconstitutional and politically motivated. Both Shivakumar and Byregowda emphasized their confidence in the legal system and their determination to protect the government.
