In a touching gesture ahead of Raksha Bandhan, women working in Anganwadis across Gujarat are set to send more than 1 lakh rakhis to soldiers stationed at the border. This initiative is part of the 'Ek Rakhi Desh ke Jawana ke Naam' campaign, officials announced on Saturday.

The campaign was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Women and Child Welfare Minister Bhanuben Babaria, who presented Raksha Kalash to Lt. Col. Rakesh Kumar and Sub-Major Santosh Kamte of the 16 Maratha Light Infantry. These rakhis aim to convey the love and support of Gujarat's mothers and sisters to the brave soldiers defending the nation.

The event saw the presence of Women and Child Development Secretary and Commissioner Shri Rakesh Shankar, I.C.D.S. Commissioner Shri Ranjitkumar Singh, Deputy Secretary Mrs. Kumudben Yagnik, along with Anganwadi workers and supervisors. Chief Minister Patel commended the initiative, highlighting the soldiers' sacrifices and the emotional bond symbolized by the rakhis.

This campaign follows a similar event in Akhnoor district of Jammu and Kashmir, where schoolgirls tied rakhis to army personnel. Raksha Bandhan, known as Rakhi, falls on August 19 this year and is celebrated to honor the bond between siblings.
