On the eve of India's 78th Independence Day, vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital sparked a fresh wave of controversy, prompting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to squarely blame the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing a rally on Friday, Banerjee urged expedited action from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), declaring, 'I know the vandalism was orchestrated by CPIM and BJP. Despite the chaos, the protest continues. I salute the protestors.'

Intensifying her criticism of the CPIM and BJP, Banerjee cited multiple incidents of atrocities against women in states ruled by these parties. She questioned their moral high ground, pointing to incidents in Manipur, Unnao, Hathras, and Madhya Pradesh, alleging a pattern of negligence and injustice. 'In BJP-ruled states, are women safe? When incidents occur here, there is an investigation. But what happens in their states?' she questioned.

Banerjee didn't hold back on her harsh criticism of CPIM, questioning their priorities. 'CPIM, how many teams did you send to other states facing similar issues? But here in Bengal, due to a minor incident, you've rushed in without shame,' she said. She further assured that the Bengal government is capable of handling the situation and called for capital punishment for those behind the vandalism. 'We demand capital punishment to prevent future incidents,' Banerjee asserted.
