Teams from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday to investigate the alleged rape and murder of a female trainee doctor. Acting on a Calcutta High Court order, the CBI has taken over the case and dispatched specialized forensic teams from Delhi.

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar has raised doubts regarding the circumstances of the trainee doctor's death. Majumdar noted the conspicuous silence from women MPs of the TMC, despite their significant numbers, on this pressing issue. He emphasized that two TMC MPs and three MLAs are alumni of the same medical college but remained silent, suggesting possible suppression within the party.

Majumdar stated, 'In the doctor's team, many such topics have come up in their WhatsApp group, with screenshots involving drugs and sex rackets being shared with us. One TMC MP's nephew is frequently mentioned. I don't know the truth, but it appears suspicious as none of the TMC women MPs have spoken out following such a major incident.' The death of the woman trainee doctor has ignited widespread outrage, leading to protests within the medical community and beyond.

The National Medical Commission (NMC), directed by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, issued an advisory to medical institutions urging the creation of policies ensuring a safe work environment. According to an official notice, recent violent incidents against doctors highlight the need for safety policies in medical institutions.

Meanwhile, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital's OPD services remained closed on Wednesday, with junior doctors on strike. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) continued its nationwide OPD shutdown while doctors and medical students staged a protest at AIIMS Delhi in solidarity with the trainee doctor.

The post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. Her family alleges she was raped and murdered. (ANI)
