Tamil Nadu Congress President K Selvaperunthagai announced on Tuesday that the party would boycott the tea party hosted by Governor RN Ravi on Independence Day at Raj Bhavan. Selvaperunthagai criticized the governor for engaging in politically biased activities under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's regime, contrasting it with the past 70 years.

Selvaperunthagai further accused Governor Ravi of working against the interests of Tamil Nadu and its elected government. He cited delays in the appointment of vice-chancellors at state universities and criticized the governor's continuation in office past his tenure as unconstitutional. As a result, the Tamil Nadu Congress will abstain from the governor's tea party.

In February 2024, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin accused Governor Ravi of using the Assembly for political purposes. Stalin argued that the governor's actions disrespected the Assembly and breached his constitutional oath. In March 2024, the Supreme Court questioned Governor Ravi's refusal to appoint K Ponmudy as a minister, marking another point of contention.
