Odisha's coastal security has been put on high alert in response to the political crisis in Bangladesh, announced Additional Director General of Police (ADG) for Law and Order, Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday. Patrols have intensified along the state's coastline to thwart any infiltration or illegal immigration efforts.
ADG Kumar informed that all the surveillance teams from the 18 marine police stations have been sensitized, and officers have been deployed to maintain strict vigilance. He highlighted the importance of collaborating with coastguards and Navy officers to bolster security measures.
Kumar said the Odisha Police is closely monitoring the developments in Bangladesh, especially after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation. The local police and the coastal security teams are on high alert to manage any potential spillover from the political unrest in the neighboring country.
Following Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid student-led anti-government protests, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was appointed head of Bangladesh's interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The dissolution of the country's parliament was also announced to pave the way for new administration.
