Houthis Target Vessels in Red and Mediterranean Seas
Yemen's Houthis targeted three vessels, including an oil tanker, in the Red and Mediterranean seas with ballistic missiles, drones, and booby-trapped boats. The attacks prompted by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza resulted in minimal damage. Houthis claimed these actions were in solidarity with Palestinians affected by the conflict.
On Monday, Yemen's Houthis launched attacks on three vessels, including an oil tanker, using ballistic missiles, drones, and booby-trapped boats in the Red and Mediterranean seas.
The militant group targeted the "BENTLEY I" and "CHIOS Lion" in the Red Sea, as well as the "Olvia" in the Mediterranean, according to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree. The operations were reportedly retaliatory measures following Israeli airstrikes in Gaza that killed at least 90 Palestinians.
Earlier, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed two vessels were attacked off Yemen's port city of Hodeidah. One vessel reported damage from an uncrewed surface vessel, while another faced missile strikes. Despite the attacks, the ships and their crews were reported safe. These incidents have disrupted global trade and prompted retaliatory strikes from the U.S. and Britain.
