The Sharda River in Uttarakhand's Kumaon district is in spate following widespread rainfall. Drone visuals on Thursday captured the river's swelling at Sharda Barrage, also known as Banbasa Barrage, revealing the rainfall's impact on the river catchment areas.
On July 9, amid widespread flooding in parts of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami engaged with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel in water-logged Khatima. CM Dhami shared aerial inspection photos of flood-hit Kumaon areas on his official X handle.
"Aerial inspections of Khatima, Haldwani, Banbasa, Tanakpur, Sitarganj, and other flood-hit Kumaon areas were conducted. The heavy rains have damaged the Terai region," Dhami said. He added that officials are providing continuous assistance, and affected residents are being relocated to safer places.
Additionally, the Chief Minister visited Tanakpur (Champawat) and met flood-affected residents at Sharda Ghat and Sailanigoth, assuring them of government support. He ordered regular supplies of food, water, electricity, and transportation to affected areas.
Emphasizing the government's support, Dhami noted, "Officials have been directed to spray medicines to prevent water-borne diseases after the disaster." He inspected flood-hit Gaulpar in Haldwani of Nainital district, instructing officials to address waterlogging and assist residents.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in many areas, with extremely heavy rainfall in isolated parts of Kumaon. (ANI)
