The Met Department on Saturday issued a warning of significant rainfall in several south Bengal districts through August 26, prompted by a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and a vigorous monsoon.

According to a bulletin, the cyclonic circulation is expected to develop into a low-pressure area by Monday, leading to heavy to very heavy rainfall in South and North 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Hooghly, Birbhum, and East and West Bardhaman.

Kolkata also experienced sharp showers on Saturday, causing waterlogging in central and northern areas, including Central Avenue. Fishermen have been advised to avoid the sea over the north Bay of Bengal near the state coast until August 26.
