Omar Abdullah, head of the National Conference (NC), spearheaded a remarkable shikara rally on Dal Lake on Monday. The event was a key part of his election campaign for the upcoming second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir.
With the red-and-white NC flag in hand, Abdullah navigated through the lake's interiors, canvassing support for Tanvir Sadiq, the party's candidate for the Zadibal Assembly segment in Srinagar. Zadibal is among the 26 assembly segments across six districts scheduled to poll on September 25.
The shikara rally drew the participation of hundreds of NC workers and supporters, who filled the lake with chants for their leader. Speaking to reporters, Abdullah expressed hope that the election day would mirror the enthusiasm shown at the rally, highlighting both the region's beauty and the underlying discontentment that could influence votes.
