Maha Vishnu, a motivational speaker and founder of Paramporul Foundation, was taken into custody on Saturday following contentious remarks on karma and rebirth at a school event, police report.

A complaint from a welfare association for differently-abled people led to his arrest at the airport upon his return from abroad. He was subsequently produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody under pertinent legal provisions.

The controversy erupted after Vishnu's argument with a visually impaired teacher, Shankar, at a school function, which gained widespread attention on social media. Reactions were mixed, with the School Education Minister supporting the complainants while BJP leaders criticized the arrest as 'hasty.'
