The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to actor Kangana Ranaut, the Centre, and the censor board regarding her Hindi film 'Emergency.' This action stems from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) claiming that the film violates the fundamental rights of the Sikh community.
The PIL, submitted by two Sikh organizations, asserts that 'Emergency' contains scenes harmful to the Sikh community and demands an unconditional apology from Ranaut and other involved parties. The film portrays Ranaut as former prime minister Indira Gandhi and is set for release on September 6.
A division bench, including Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, issued the notices, which must be addressed within 24 hours. The next hearing is scheduled for September 3, with the petitioners seeking a restriction on the film across India, particularly in Madhya Pradesh.
