Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday criticized Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for his remarks on the Sikh community and reservations, describing them as 'misleading, baseless,' and 'extremely shameful.' Singh accused Gandhi of opening a 'shop of lies' while ostensibly running a 'shop of love.'
'The kind of misleading, baseless and factless things that Rahul Gandhi is saying during his foreign tour are extremely shameful and hurt the dignity of India. He has made baseless claims about the Sikh community not being allowed to wear turbans in Gurdwaras,' Singh posted on X, adding that the entire country appreciates the Sikh community's role in preserving India's culture.
Singh also refuted Gandhi's assertion that the NDA government intends to abolish reservations. 'Our Prime Minister has strengthened the reservation system for Dalits, backward classes, and tribals,' he said. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Home Minister Amit Shah also condemned Gandhi's comments, with Rijiju stressing that India is a safe haven for minorities and Shah accusing Gandhi of making anti-national statements.
