BJP leader Karan Nanda on Saturday criticized the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh for failing to fulfill election promises, particularly the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The state BJP media in-charge accused Congress of consistently making bold promises during election campaigns but not delivering once in power. 'It has become a habit for the Congress party to promise the moon during elections and backtrack once they are in power,' Nanda said in a statement.

Nanda highlighted that 7,88,784 women applied for the scheme, which aims to support women aged 18 to 59 with a monthly pension of Rs 1500. However, only 28,249 women have received the funds so far.

Moreover, 2,384 applications were rejected due to non-compliance with eligibility criteria, and there have been reports of previously disbursed funds being reclaimed, Nanda alleged.

According to him, the Congress government promised pensions for all women but is now restricting benefits to only one woman per family.

Opposition leaders echoed similar concerns, accusing the Congress government of misleading voters and failing to honor its election commitments. They argue that the revised scheme structure clearly indicates Congress's inability to deliver promises, undermining trust among beneficiaries.
