Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has expressed concern over the increasing instances of wild animals dying due to electrocution. The minister has requested detailed reports from forest officials on the number of such incidents in the past five years and the actions taken against those responsible.

In a letter addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary in the Forest and Environment Department and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Khandre instructed that postmortem reports of wild animals killed by electrocution should henceforth be provided to him.

Khandre also demanded a detailed report on the causes of these incidents and the measures taken against individuals who install electric fences to protect their crops. Recent instances, notably involving elephants and their calves, have raised significant concern.
