A large-scale search operation is currently in progress in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, as wildlife authorities and forest officials strive to capture a pack of wolves wreaking havoc. With four wolves already captured, the focus now shifts to tracking the remaining members of the pack. Sanjay Pathak, General Manager of the Forest Department, confirmed that drones are being used in the search effort.

"We are tracking them. No untoward incident has been reported. Drones are also being used in the search operation," Pathak stated. Officials noted that Tuesday night passed without any reported wolf attacks as the search continued without positive results.

District Forest Officer (DFO) Bahraich, Ajit Pratap Singh, explained that a multi-faceted approach is being employed, utilizing thermal drones to track movements and gathering intelligence from residents. Singh mentioned a recent sighting that ended unsuccessfully due to noise from villagers. He also noted the limitations of thermal drones in low light conditions, complicating the identification process.

Further adding to the concern, the DFO questioned the initial count of wolves, suggesting there might be three wolves instead of two. To address this, four thermal drones have now been deployed. Forest Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Arun Saxena, is set to visit Bahraich to monitor the situation and conduct a review meeting with senior Forest Department officials. Mahsi MLA Sureshvar Singh also visited to assess the situation.

Sureshvar Singh confirmed a wolf sighting in Barah Bigha village and speculated there are three wolves working in a coordinated manner. The number of people injured in alleged wolf attacks has risen to 34, with several treated and two referred to the District Hospital. 'Operation Bhediya' had earlier captured four wolves suspected of multiple attacks on villagers. (ANI)
