In a significant breakthrough, forest officials captured the fifth wolf from a notorious pack in Bahraich's Mahasi tehsil on Tuesday, as part of the 'Operation Bhediya'. This pack of six wolves has been responsible for eight fatalities and more than 20 injuries since mid-July, officials confirmed.

Using the pugmark technique, the wolf was captured near Ghaghra river close to Harabnspur village, according to Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh. With only the alpha wolf remaining, officials are hopeful it will also be caught soon to end the terror affecting 50 villages.

Despite reports, Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh refuted claims that the remaining wolf is lame. She also mentioned the captured wolf is a female. Renu Singh stressed the importance of traditional tracking over drones, offering insights into the intelligent behavior of these animals. The campaign continues with hopes to capture the last wolf shortly.
