Veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal on Saturday addressed the media for the first time following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which unveiled shocking cases of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. Mohanlal asserted that the entire industry shares the responsibility for the issues raised, though he noted that the actors' association, AMMA, had been unfairly targeted.
Speaking on the sidelines of a program, Mohanlal explained that AMMA, where he recently resigned as president, could not tackle every problem in the film industry. He defended the association against criticism and highlighted its welfare initiatives, dismissing allegations that accused the leadership of being part of a 'power group'.
The actor also supported the government's decision to release the Hema Committee report and emphasized the need for equal justice within the industry. While calling for new leadership within AMMA, he urged media support to help rebuild the embattled film sector and ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
