Plans to construct a replica of the Kedarnath Temple in Delhi have been canceled amid widespread controversy. Opposition stemmed from concerns about disrespecting the original temple in Uttarakhand.
The project had been inaugurated by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Burari. However, the Kedarnath Dham Delhi Trust, led by president Suman Mittal, decided to cancel the construction to avoid offending religious sentiments.
The Trust also halted online donations, and objections from the temple priests, who claimed replication would be disrespectful, played a significant role in the decision. A protest march by the opposition Congress was also disrupted due to adverse weather conditions.
