The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has formally requested the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to initiate inspection and restoration efforts for the Ratna Bhandar of the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri. The SJTA's Chief Administrator, Arabinda Padhee, highlighted the need for comprehensive scanning and investigation using state-of-the-art technology to ensure proper conservation and restoration of the inner and outer chambers of the temple's treasury.

The request comes amid concerns over potential secret tunnels or chambers within the Ratna Bhandar. To guarantee the accuracy and effectiveness of the inspection, the SJTA also suggested involving institutions like IIT or CBRI, which specialize in such work. The SJTA stressed that the inspection should not negatively impact the historical structure.

In preparation for the inspection, seven empty iron chests and almirahs were moved to a room near the Niladri Vihar Museum on Friday. The jewellery and other valuable items previously stored in these containers were relocated to strong rooms within the temple. This move and subsequent sealing of the treasury chambers were carried out under the supervision of Justice Biswanath Rath, and the entire process was documented through videography.
