Nepal is set to export close to 1,000 megawatts of electricity to India, declared External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday, following extensive discussions with his Nepalese counterpart, Arzu Rana Deuba.
Jaishankar hailed Nepal's decision as a 'new milestone' in India-Nepal relations. The dialogue also centered on strengthening cooperation in trade, connectivity, and infrastructure, areas deemed crucial for both nations.
Embarking on her first official foreign trip, Deuba expressed optimism, terming the talks as 'productive.' She emphasized that this visit would bolster the longstanding bond between the neighboring countries.
The interactions are part of an ongoing series of high-level engagements, underscoring Nepal's pivotal role in India's strategic interests. The nations' deep-rooted 'Roti Beti' relationship further enhances this partnership, especially given Nepal's reliance on Indian transport routes due to its landlocked geography.
