Supporters of arch-rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan assembled near Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday evening to protest the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College. This unexpected show of solidarity saw both sets of fans, along with Mohammedan SC supporters, united in their call for justice.

Over a hundred demonstrators initially gathered outside the stadium holding placards during the scheduled Durand Cup match, which was canceled due to law and order concerns. The protests escalated as actor Usashi Chakraborty and theatre personality Sourav Palodhi joined, with police eventually deploying a significant force to manage the situation, leading to several detentions.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey criticized the state government for the law and order breakdown. The arterial road connecting the north and south parts of the city faced significant blockages, affecting traffic. Amid rising tensions, police imposed prohibitory orders and detained multiple protesters, leading to an ongoing confrontation as more supporters arrived.
