Islamic scholar Nasar Faizy Koodathai has publicly criticized the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) for organizing a pork challenge to raise funds for Wayanad landslide relief efforts. Koodathai, a prominent leader of Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyathul Qutba Committee, described the challenge as blasphemous and an insult to the survivors.
The DYFI, affiliated with the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, held the pork challenge in Kothamangalam, selling 517 kg of pork at Rs 375 per kg. DYFI's state secretary, V K Sanoj, dismissed the criticisms, attributing them to a communal agenda and asserting that their fund-raising events cater to local markets.
The organization has been conducting various fund-raising activities such as biriyani and fish challenges to aid the Wayanad rehabilitation efforts. However, other political entities have not responded to Koodathai's comments.
