Fifteen fire engines and about 100 firefighters responded to a significant fire at Somerset House in central London on Saturday. Thick black smoke was visible throughout the city's skyline, as confirmed by a statement from the London Fire Brigade.
The blaze, whose cause is still under investigation, centered on the building's roof section. Somerset House, a historic site dating back to 1547 and located along the River Thames, now functions as an arts and cultural hub. It also houses the Courtauld Gallery, which features one of the world's foremost art collections.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which has left a substantial part of the iconic building's roof damaged.
