The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression.

'Continuous light to moderate rains are expected across several districts of Andhra Pradesh, with heavy to very heavy rains likely,' an official from the Met Department stated.

The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal near north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha has intensified into a depression and is predicted to move further west and northwest, impacting regions between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur.

With squally weather and wind speeds of up to 65 km per hour anticipated along the coasts, residents are being advised to exercise caution.

Significant rainfall has already inundated roads in Bhimavaram and Vijayawada, disrupting daily life. Authorities have declared a holiday for schools in Vijayawada.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has warned residents in coastal districts to prepare for heavy surface winds and potential flooding from swollen rivers and streams.

The Central Water Commission also issued warnings about swelling rivers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, advising prompt water discharges from key projects to manage increased water flows.
