Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Maharashtra are set to send one crore rakhis to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a gesture of gratitude for the implementation of various welfare schemes, according to a statement from Shinde's office.
The rakhis will be delivered to the chief minister on August 19, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival. The Shinde-led administration recently rolled out the 'Majhi Ladki Bahin' scheme, which was announced in this year's budget ahead of the assembly elections. This scheme has already seen funds deposited into the bank accounts of lakhs of women in the state.
Under the scheme, more than 2.5 crore women in Maharashtra will receive Rs 1,500 monthly in their bank accounts. Additionally, women are being provided with three free gas cylinders under the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana. These initiatives are aimed at bringing women into the mainstream of development. In recognition of these efforts, members of Self-Help Groups from some 40,000 villages will be sending rakhis to CM Shinde as a token of their gratitude.
