In a fervent plea for peace, a religious sect conducted special prayers and a 'yajna' at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on Friday, focusing on the safety of the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Swami Adhokshjanand Devtirth of Shankaracharya Govardhan Peeth spearheaded the rituals, emphasizing the need for the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure the security of its Hindu residents. 'The recent events in Bangladesh in which Hindus were targeted are very sad. This has hurt the Sanatanis, the Hindus the world over,' he remarked.
He praised Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, for his visit to the Dhakeswari temple while urging the administration to protect Hindus, ensure their rehabilitation, and rebuild damaged places of worship. The call for justice comes after reports of targeted violence following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed concern during his Independence Day speech.
