New South Wales (NSW) is set for double-digit growth in tourist arrivals from India, thanks to improved air connectivity and seamless visa approvals through the e-visa application process.

In 2023, NSW welcomed 1,81,600 tourists from India, a figure expected to soar with increased direct flights and higher disposable incomes, stated Destination NSW Country Manager Samar Chokshi. With 3.4 million international visitors, NSW experienced a 104% increase compared to 2019.

Quoting data from International Visitor Survey, Tourism Research Australia, Chokshi revealed that Indian visitors spent a total of 7 million nights in NSW in 2023, contributing AUD 482.2 million to the state's economy. Promoted as a leisure destination, NSW is focusing on segments such as honeymoon, family, groups, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibition). Major events and festivals like Vivid Sydney and Diwali celebrations are emphasized to resonate with Indian culture and attract more travelers.
