Students from a school in Maharashtra's Amravati district celebrated World Elephant Day in an innovative manner by cutting a cake for four elephants and waving to them, according to a forest official.
The event took place in Amravati's Kolkas area within the Melghat Tiger Reserve on Monday. The forest department invited students from the Zilla Parishad school in Semadoh to participate in the event, which emphasized the importance of elephant conservation.
Forest officials educated the students on the critical role elephants play in maintaining the environment, especially as human-wildlife conflicts and habitat destruction continue to pose serious threats. Elephants are important ecosystem engineers; they create paths through dense forests that benefit other wildlife. An elephant safari is available for tourists in the Kolkas area.
