Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy revealed on Monday that the revenue generated through the Department of Excise is being allocated towards the development of amenities and infrastructure in various Assembly segments. This was in response to a question raised by DMK legislator R Senthil Kumar.
The Chief Minister elaborated that funds from liquor outlets and arrack shops are being utilized to lay roads and provide essential services. 'The government is applying this policy uniformly across all segments,' he noted.
During the session, members from different parties emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard lives and property during heavy rains. Opposition MLA M Vaithianathan highlighted the impact of severe rainfall on August 9 and 10, urging the government to equip its departments with advanced equipment for disaster management. Nominated legislator R B Ashok Babu called for maintenance of stormwater drains in anticipation of the northeast monsoon.
