Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has reported a notable increase in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of girl students in higher education institutions in the state. For the academic year 2024-25, 37,450 girls enrolled in general degree colleges, surpassing the 35,800 boy students. The previous year also saw more girl students enrolling compared to boys.

During the platinum jubilee celebration of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Unakoti district, Saha underscored the government's initiatives aimed at empowering female students. Since 2022, the state has provided free education for girls up to the college level. Saha highlighted the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs, the establishment of 'pink toilets,' and a 50 per cent reservation for women in government stalls as key measures.

He attributed the rise in GER to these initiatives and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the state. Saha also mentioned the 'Lakshya' scheme to support students preparing for competitive exams and announced the forthcoming Dhamma Dipa University and progress on Techno India University and Aryavart International University. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming Tripura into an educational hub.
