Doctors at Ujala Cygnus Hospital have achieved a significant medical breakthrough by removing a complex brain tumour from a 62-year-old patient, restoring his vision.
The patient, diagnosed with pituitary adenoma, had experienced severe vision loss. Dr Monique Garg, Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery, stated that the tumour was located at the base of the brain, exerting pressure on the optic nerves.
The three-hour surgery utilized the transnasal transsphenoidal approach, a minimally invasive method that reduces complications and speeds up recovery. Post-surgery, the patient showed significant improvement in his vision and was discharged five days later. Dr Puneet Kant, also a Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery, highlighted the effectiveness of this surgical technique for pituitary adenomas, which are responsible for 10-15% of all brain tumours.
