The latest statistics from the Home Office indicate a significant 23 percent drop in the number of Indian students enrolling in UK universities. Despite being the largest group granted leave to remain on the Graduate Route visa, these numbers have fallen as stricter migration policies take effect.

Data reveals that 110,006 Indian nationals received sponsored study visas until June 2024, down by 32,687 compared to the previous year. The decline is linked to tighter restrictions on bringing dependent family members, which came into effect earlier this year.

While Indian nationals continue to lead in the issuance of UK Visitor Visas and the Graduate Route, UK universities are concerned about the financial impact of reduced international student enrollment. The National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK emphasizes the need to assure Indian students that the UK remains a welcoming study destination.
