Congress MP Mohammad Jawed has accused the Modi government of dismantling India's education system, citing recent paper leaks and teacher shortages that have plagued the sector. He emphasized the need to reinitiate scholarships and schemes for minority students, pointing out alarming student suicide rates in Delhi and the coaching hub Kota.
During a debate on the Education Ministry's grant demands, Jawed also highlighted the budgetary allocation for education decreasing from 3.36 percent of GDP during the UPA regime to 2.9 percent under the present government. He criticized the government for not fulfilling its promises on education reforms.
In contrast, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya lauded the union budget and National Education Policy for their contribution to youth empowerment and skill development. He defended the government's efforts in education, asserting significant progress over the past decade, and deflected accusations of anti-Dalit, anti-tribal, and anti-OBC sentiment towards the Congress party.
