The Municipal Corporation Department (MCD) has undertaken a significant modernization project, replacing more than 12,000 blackboards with whiteboards in schools across its 12 zones. This project, costing around Rs 41.5 crore, aims to enhance the educational infrastructure in MCD-run schools.
In addition to the whiteboards, the schools have been equipped with around 25,700 magnetic whiteboard erasers and dusters, and over one lakh water-based whiteboard markers. The initiative, which started with a tender last year, was completed in June, providing a modern and dust-free environment for nearly 8.5 lakh students.
The distribution of the whiteboards included 1,925 in the South Delhi zone, 1,540 in the Rohini zone, and others across the remaining zones. This upgrade replaces outdated blackboards and chalkboards, which were hard to clean and produced chalk dust. The MCD's effort reflects a commitment to improving the learning conditions for students across Delhi.
