The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated a special drive to ensure the safety and quality of food items during the festive season. According to an official statement by FSSAI, Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers across the country have been instructed to maintain strict surveillance over the manufacturing and sale of sweets, savouries, and dairy products such as milk, ghee, khoya, and paneer within their respective jurisdictions. This measure aims to prevent adulteration practices that could compromise the health of consumers.

As demand for food products rises during the festive season, FSSAI emphasized the importance of preventive actions. These include carrying out special surveillance and enforcement drives by Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers, particularly in hotspots known for adulteration practices. Such measures are pivotal in ensuring the safety of these products while curbing malpractices.

In addition to surveillance drives, FSSAI has urged state and local authorities to conduct frequent enforcement checks. These efforts are expected to deter those who might attempt to adulterate food products to meet the heightened festive demand. FSSAI has also directed the deployment of Food Safety on Wheels (FSW), a mobile food testing laboratory, in prominent markets or areas where adulteration is more likely. These mobile units are equipped to conduct on-the-spot checks, ensuring sweets, savouries, and dairy products meet required safety standards. This proactive approach aims to ensure consumers enjoy safe and healthy food during the festive season.
