The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken stringent action against SpiceJet by placing the beleaguered airline under enhanced surveillance. This follows reports of flight cancellations and significant financial stress affecting the company's operations.

Recently, a special audit of SpiceJet's engineering facilities conducted on August 7 and 8 uncovered numerous deficiencies. Based on these findings, DGCA announced an immediate increase in spot checks and night surveillance to ensure the airline maintains operational safety standards. The regulator had previously placed SpiceJet under similar scrutiny in 2023, following a series of incidents in 2022 that led to mandatory rectifications before aircraft release.

On the operational front, SpiceJet confirmed that flights from Dubai are now running as scheduled after earlier cancellations attributed to unpaid dues to Dubai airport. The budget airline continues to struggle with financial and legal challenges, while efforts to secure additional funding are underway.
