The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) in Kolkata has announced the launch of the Bengal Middle East Express (BMEx), a new container vessel service linking the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) to Jebel Ali Port in the UAE.

The BMEx service, operating on the Haldia-Chittagong-Jebel Ali-Haldia route, aims to provide regional exporters and importers with a more efficient and cost-effective shipping option by bypassing traditional transshipment ports. The port's statement emphasized the service's potential to reduce transit time, lower operational costs, and avoid congestion, thereby enhancing supply chain efficiency.

Initiated by Ocean Salute Line of Singapore in collaboration with MBK Logistix, the BMEx service is set to improve global connectivity for SMP. The inaugural vessel, Yong Yue 11, is scheduled to arrive at HDC on September 6. Port chairman Rathendra Raman highlighted the significance of the new service in fostering trade and economic growth in the region, adding that the port has offered substantial discounts on vessel-related charges for direct calls from South East Asia, Far East, and Middle East Ports.

This strategic move underscores SMP's commitment to enhancing its competitiveness on the global stage and supporting the region's EXIM trade.
