The Bihar Transport department and traffic police have issued over 16,700 e-challans worth Rs 9.49 crore in a single week through an e-detection system installed at 13 toll plazas, officials have revealed.
According to authorities, out of the 16,755 e-challans issued, 9,676 were for vehicles registered in other states, while 7,079 were for those registered in Bihar, all within the week of August 7 to 15.
Additional Director General (ADG) of Bihar Traffic Police Sudhanshu Kumar highlighted the state's initiative, emphasizing the importance of vehicle documentation, including insurance, fitness, and pollution certificates. The e-detection system, installed at multiple toll plazas, aims to automatically issue e-challans for non-compliance to ensure adherence to the Motor Vehicle Act and reduce road accidents.
The recently launched 'national highway patrolling system' by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with the sanctioning of 10,332 new posts for effective traffic rule enforcement, further aims to enhance road safety. The highway patrolling vehicles, positioned strategically every 50 km, are crucial in rescuing accident victims, according to ADG Kumar.
