A tragic accident in central Nepal claimed the lives of at least 27 Indian pilgrims from Maharashtra. The group was on a 10-day tour when their bus veered off the highway and fell into the Marsyangdi River.
The bus, with 43 passengers including the driver and two helpers, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Sixteen of the injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment. The Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with local authorities for search and rescue operations.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The bus fell approximately 150 meters down a hilly road into a fast-flowing river. More than 250 security personnel were dispatched to the scene for rescue efforts using twin rope systems due to the difficult terrain.
