Hindalco Industries will inject USD 10 billion (approximately Rs 83,900 crore) into current and upcoming expansion projects in India and the US, as announced by Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla on Thursday. Key expansions include the Aditya Flat Rolled Products plant, an alumina refinery in Rayagada, Odisha, and Novelis Inc.'s Bay Minnette project.

Addressing the company's 65th annual general meeting, Birla revealed, ''Our expansions across both our India business and Novelis will involve investments close to USD 10 billion for both ongoing and near-term projected initiatives.'' Novelis Inc is a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries.

The company is advancing the development of a greenfield alumina refinery in Rayagada, Odisha, with the first phase of 850,000 tonnes expected to become operational by FY27.

Hindalco is also considering a nearly 200,000-tonne brownfield expansion at the Aditya Aluminium smelter in Odisha, largely powered by renewable energy.

The company plans to enhance its copper smelting capacity, exploring a brownfield facility in Gujarat to address growing national demands for this crucial metal.

In addition, Hindalco is constructing the largest Copper Inner Groove Tube plant in Wagodia, Gujarat, set to be commissioned by the end of the year to reduce reliance on imports for air conditioner components.

Novelis continues to advance several strategic capital projects, notably a rolling and recycling investment in Bay Minette, US. The facility, with a finished goods capacity of 600,000 tonnes, will provide a significant competitive edge and will start commissioning in the latter half of 2026.

Novelis has also commissioned an advanced automotive recycling center in North America and announced a UBC recycling expansion in Latchford, UK, aimed at increasing recycled content and lowering carbon emissions.

Despite repaying Rs 5,195 crore of debt within Hindalco India over the past year, the firm has maintained a robust balance sheet and solid liquidity, positioning it well for future growth through strategic capital allocation.
