Kenya Aviation Unions Threaten Strike Over Adani Airport Holdings Proposal
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union announced a strike starting August 19, against an investment by Adani Airport Holdings at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The union demands the deal be abandoned to avoid significant disruption to Kenya Airways and operations at the Nairobi hub.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union declared on Monday a strike commencing August 19, targeting an investment proposal from India's Adani Airport Holdings at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The impending strike threatens major disruptions for Kenya's national carrier, Kenya Airways, and operations at the Nairobi-based hub, a vital African travel node. 'We shall reconsider our intention to engage in industrial action... only if the Adani Airport Holdings Limited's deal is abandoned in its entirety,' stated Moss Ndiema, head of the Kenya Aviation Workers Union.
In the previous month, Kenya's Airports Authority indicated that Adani's investment proposal included the development of a second runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
