Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will today unveil the Union Budget 2024-25 in Parliament, marking her seventh consecutive budget and surpassing the record of Morarji Desai, who delivered six consecutive budgets. The presentation, scheduled for 11 am, is expected to focus on modifications in the income tax structure and measures to enhance the ease of doing business in India under the Modi 3.0 government.

Key announcements from Sitharaman are anticipated, alongside the government's strategic economic direction. She will present the estimated receipts and expenditures for the year 2024-25 in both English and Hindi before the Rajya Sabha, following a similar presentation in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, documents related to medium-term fiscal policy and macroeconomic framework will be tabled.

Before the budget unveiling, the finance minister will traditionally visit the North Block, consult with finance ministry secretaries, and meet the President for final approval. A Cabinet meeting led by the prime minister will precede the presentation. The budget-making process involves months of preparation, including the 'halwa ceremony' signifying the start of budget document printing. The Economic Survey, released a day before the budget, projects India to maintain its status as the fastest-growing major economy.
