Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, emphasized the importance of a unified single-window system for enhancing the ease of doing business across India during the ‘Udyog Samagam’ conference held at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka in Delhi on September 4, 2024.

Chairing the conference, Shri Goyal highlighted that if all states and Union Territories (UTs) collaborate on a single platform for approvals and facilities, it would significantly attract global investment to each state. He stressed that approvals should be time-bound and accessible without the need for physical visits to government offices, aiming to simplify and expedite the process.

The conference also celebrated top performers under the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP), with states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat being recognized for their exceptional reforms in streamlining processes and enhancing service efficiency. Shri Goyal noted the importance of states sharing best practices and engaging in healthy competition to drive national progress. He highlighted specific reforms from various states, including Orissa’s mining sector improvements, UP’s investment promotion, Maharashtra’s infrastructure development for FDI attraction, and Sikkim’s advancements in organic farming.

Addressing the role of the government in promoting India as a global investment destination, Shri Goyal reiterated the commitment to creating a level playing field for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) across states and UTs. He emphasized that foreign investments are being distributed across various states, benefiting from the government’s efforts.

The Department for Promotion of Investment and Internal Trade (DPIIT) successfully organized the ‘Udyog Samagam’ conference, which brought together Industry and Commerce Ministers, senior officials from all states and UTs, and distinguished guests to discuss industrial growth, ease of doing business, and creating a business-friendly environment.

A notable moment was the release of the Regulatory Compliance Burden (RCB) Booklet by Shri Goyal. The booklet outlines the government’s efforts to simplify, digitalize, and eliminate outdated regulations. It reports a reduction of over 42,000 business and citizen compliances, including the decriminalization of more than 3,800 provisions and the removal of redundant laws. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment.

The conference was attended by Industries and Commerce Ministers from 16 states and senior officials from other states, reflecting a collective commitment to advancing industrial growth and improving the ease of doing business across India.
