This Tuesday, the Modi 3.0 government's highly anticipated full budget for 2024-25 will be presented in Parliament. All eyes are on the crucial announcements by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the government's forward-thinking economic guidance.
With this budget, Sitharaman surpasses former Prime Minister Morarji Desai's record of six budgets, marking her seventh budget presentation. The budget session, starting July 22 and ending August 12, will include various traditional events and a thorough review process.
Ahead of the budget, ministries submit their expenditure and revenue estimates to the Finance Ministry, which collects stakeholder input through pre-budget meetings. The 'halwa ceremony', a symbolic event marking the start of budget printing, was held on July 16, enforcing a ministry lockdown until the budget's presentation.
The Economic Survey, released a day before the budget, provides insights into the nation's economic performance and forecasts. The finance minister will present this survey to Parliament, setting the stage for the budget speech, which outlines fiscal policies and key announcements.
Following the presentation, the budget undergoes detailed scrutiny in both houses, with members debating its provisions and proposing amendments. The Union Budget documents will be accessible via the bilingual 'Union Budget Mobile App', ensuring ease of access for MPs and the public.
