In a landmark development, the Assam government has officially transferred 517.27 bighas of land in Morigaon to the Tata Group to set up a semiconductor plant. The lease agreement, signed in Morigaon's Sub-Registrar's office, paves the way for construction to commence imminently.

Ranjan Bandopadhyay, Board Member and Chief Human Resources Officer of Tata Group, along with Dhiraj Pegu of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), signed the lease for a duration of 60 years. District Commissioner Devasish Sharma lauded the milestone as Tata aims to start production by 2026 on a smaller scale initially.

The ceremony was attended by prominent officials including Sub-Registrar Namrata Chahu, and senior representatives from Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously laid the foundation stone in Jagiroad on March 13, marking a significant technological leap for Assam with a Rs 27,000 crore investment. The plant aims to produce 48 million chips daily and offer 16,000 job opportunities.
