Samsung Electronics Steps Deeper into AI Research

Samsung Electronics has stepped deeper into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) research by recruiting more experts. The company has hired a Harvard University professor Wei Gu-yeon as a ‘fellow’ of the firm’s AI research centre Samsung Research.

The firm said the fellow position is the highest post of the firm’s research sector to the world’s best expert in the field. Wei will work on developing next-generation processors that are based on neural processing units. He is recognized as one of the world’s renowned gurus in the low-power and high-performance AI processor sector.

Moreover, Jang Woo-seung, former senior scientist at Amazon has joined Samsung as senior vice-president of the IT and mobile communications division. Kang Sung-chul, former head of Centre for Medical Robotics at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology has joined the smartphone giant as senior vice-president.
