The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) initiated an important discussion on Tuesday by releasing a paper focused on network authorisations under the new Telecom Act, 2023. This decisive move is expected to shape the future framework for telecommunication networks.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had previously reached out to TRAI through a letter on July 26, 2024, requesting recommendations regarding terms, conditions, and fees for network establishment and expansion. The correspondence underscored the significance of aligning with the Telecommunications Act, 2023 provisions.

Furthermore, on October 17, 2024, DoT requested TRAI to include satellite communication networks within this framework. TRAI has published the consultation paper on its website, inviting stakeholders to submit their comments by November 12 and counter-comments by November 19, 2024.
