Hong Kong's government is pioneering its own ChatGPT-style AI tool for civil servants, aiming for public availability later, revealed Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, in a radio interview. Currently, the AI, termed as "document assistance application for civil servants," is under internal testing to enhance its diverse capabilities.

This sophisticated AI program is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, alongside other local universities. Planned functionalities include advanced graphics and video design capabilities, though Sun did not provide comparative details with ChatGPT.

Sun emphasized the role of both industry and government in the AI's future, noting that Hong Kong's reliance on government-led initiatives arises from limited support by tech giants like Microsoft and Google. This move aligns with China's strategic goal to lead in AI by 2030, amidst global AI supremacy rivalry with the U.S.
