Test captain Ben Stokes is set to rejoin England's squad after a two-month hiatus due to a hamstring injury. The announcement was made as England revealed their playing XI for the second Test against Pakistan, featuring two key changes following their initial victory. Stokes, who trained during his recovery, is included in the upcoming match starting Tuesday.

In a strategic move, Chris Woakes is out, making way for the all-rounder Stokes. Additionally, Matthew Potts will replace Gus Atkinson. England remains focused on the second Test at Multan, aiming to replicate the historic triumph of the first Test. Stokes is expected to bolster the seam bowling lineup alongside Durham teammates Potts and Brydon Carse.

England's fast bowlers faced intense workloads during the opening Test, despite their innings victory by 47 runs. Atkinson, Carse, and Woakes delivered 39, 38, and 35 overs, respectively, with Atkinson and Woakes participating in all six Tests of England's home summer season.

Top-order batsman Ben Duckett retains his spot following an injury scare and has successfully recuperated from a dislocated thumb from the initial Test. Stokes's return also sees young wicketkeeper Jamie Smith regain the number seven batting position, while Stokes takes his familiar number six spot.

England will continue with their spinners Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir. Rehan Ahmed and U-19 legspinner Tazeem Ali remain as reserve spin options. The selected XI for the second Test includes Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (wk), Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Jack Leach, and Shoaib Bashir.
